Duties:     - Teach Mathematics in a K-12 International School
- Help strengthen the spiritual aspect of the school
- Participate in the regular church services and school activities

• Classroom teacher shall present curriculum in a Christian environment that is in keeping with SDA principles.

• Classroom teacher shall create a loving Christian environment to encourage and help generate a positive, high participation in the students’ education process.

Reporting to: School Principal

Committee Membership: Faculty Meetings, Level Meetings, Departmental Meetings, Focus Groups, Strategic Planning, Section Meetings and other committees as assigned

Responsible for: Organizing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the total subject area

Liaise with: Grade Level Leaders, Department Heads, Administration, Faculty, Staff, Parents and Students

Specific Duties

A. General Duties

• To take full part in the EIS school community in support of the philosophy, mission and vision
• To represent EIS interests and views
• To participate in worship
• To be a Christian example of courteousness to colleagues, staff, parents, students, and to provide a welcoming environment to visitors and telephone callers
• To be present and fully engaged in school instruction and activities from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm teachers standard contract hours exempting meetings
• To participate in faculty and other meetings that arise which are usually from 2:45 pm to 4:30 pm
• To present a professional image to the public as well as to the students (See Teachers Dress Code for details)
• To monitor each morning and throughout the day email and announcements for the faculty on website
• To participate in the EIS school improvement and accreditation process

B. Curriculum Duties

• To understand the philosophy of SDA Christian education and integrate it in teaching
• To consult with the School Principal, the Department Head and the Grade Level Leaders in curriculum matters and ensure that the curriculum is relevant to EIS Expected Schoolwide Learning Outcomes (ESLOs) and student needs
• To work with the School Principal, the Department Heads and the Grade Level Leaders in the vertical and horizontal implementation of curriculum
• To attend all relevant meetings and participate as contributing members
• To prepare course outlines (Units), assessments and activities for all subjects taught
• To update in a timely manner on Rubicon Atlas with daily lesson plans
• To be familiar with Teachers Handbook and Teachers Binder in all matters concerning the teacher
• To compile a folder of emergency lesson plans and appropriate work for all classes which is on file with the Principal
• To participate in professional development and to share the experience with colleagues
• To Encourage students’ active participation in learning
• To establish positive learning environments
• To compile portfolios of student work along with appropriate directions and grading rubrics, student quizzes, test papers and projects
• To keep themselves informed with innovations, developments and issues within their teaching fields
• To keep an accurate record of student work, scores and grades
• To post grades on Grade Quick weekly if possible and no later than bi-weekly
• To participate in peer observation once every quarter

C. Management Duties

• To integrate EIS ESLOs in the class objectives, goals or concepts and implement them in the student’s learning
• To assess students’ progress through quarterly progress reports (See Student Progress Report for details)
• To regularly assess student progress according to ESLOs
• To consider the full range of abilities in their class when selecting and setting clearly defined learning goals and outcomes
• To communicate to parents in writing and posting on teachers website clearly defined learning goals
• To manage the classroom appropriately
• To appropriately discipline students and when necessary work with the Principal and PSA regarding students behavior and discipline. Minor discipline issues should be handled with the Principal major issues should involve the PSA
• To supervise students both in the classroom, on campus and during field trips
• To teach students how to organize knowledge and to present their work appropriately
• To monitor students’ appearance in accordance with EIS dress code and grooming
• To closely supervise homeroom students during flag lineup and dismissal to ensure propriety in attendance taking by teacher
• To ensure all exits and entrances doors to classroom are free from safety hazards
• To maintain an unobstructed view into the classroom
• To ensure students are present in class and under teacher supervision during class instructional period
• To ensure students are not in classroom unsupervised and the room is secured and locked when teacher is not present
• To do morning supervision when assigned
• To closely supervise students during chapel, week of prayer, and assemblies and other school related events
• To be an active sponsor of a club when sponsoring
• To support the English Speaking Program (ESP) and encourage a schoolwide English speaking environment

D. Grades

• To report grades promptly at the end of each grading period to the Registrar
• To write comments reflecting student performance and development on the Student Progress Report (SPR)
• To maintain accurate grades, attendance, ESLOs and ESP records

E. Housekeeping

• Regularly expect students to maintain a safe, clean and orderly classroom
• After the last period class, see that students clean up their areas and arrange their chairs and desks before leaving
• Turn off lights and air conditioners before leaving the classroom
• Be the last to leave the classroom to ensure that everything is in order

F. Reporting Issues and Concerns

• Refer to your Principal for issues and concerns that may involve teachers and students
• Comply with any reasonable request from administration to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description

Lodging:   May reserve/book an apartment unit at the EIS Apartment Complex (50 meters away from the school manned by day and night shift security guards) with 220 V electrical power, basic furnishings (bed & mattress, small kitchen (electric stove), hot and cold bath, refrigerator, airconditioning units, 3-seater sofa, dining set, internet access (hook up and wi-fi). Volunteer pays Bht 5,000 for the apartment Or volunteer can choose to stay in an outside housing facility.
